Let's get one thing straight everyone.
I'm a Loki fan.
Yea, THE HORROR, I know. So, before the eye rolling starts, let me say something.
I am a fan of Loki, not only his alter ego Tom Hiddleston. I admire Mr. Hiddleston IMMENSELY, not only for his Loki, but for his other work in film. And he's honestly one of the most charming men among today's actors, excluding the fact his appearance is aesthetically pleasing. So. Just so that is crystal clear.
Now,
For those of you with weak constitutions and no sense of justice ...
This is going to be a long, potentially dangerous Loki rant.
You are warned, so don't say I did'nt warn yah ...
(wait, is'nt that a smidgen of a Taylor Swift song? no, shutting up this is about Loki, not a blonde singer who says she's a country singer but we all know she's pop, TOTES not bad-mouthing her, JUS' SAYIN')
Great. One minute into this post and already I've insulted someone.
OOOAKKKAAAAAYYYY.
I did mention this was dangerous, wHY DON'T I LISTEN TO MYSELF?!?!?
Anyways. Without further emotional sputtering, let the rant ensue.
1. Why is Loki considered the bad-guy?
Pretty obvious here, everyone.
Most every saw him first in The Avengers, and not in his "debut", Thor. Or, you knew what the deal from, from the comics. Which, if you haven't seen it, you're like ... 'What's up with this psycho with greasy Christmas tree hair and sleep deprivation?"
"Likable" was not the word for him in the Avengers.
Actually, I did'nt "like" him the first time I watched it. (*insert loud goat screams of people who know about this obsession*)
BUT HERE'S THE CHEESE.
If you don't understand where he's coming from, you won't feel pity on him.
Pity is for someone when they've done the wrong things for the right reasons. We forgive them, we feel pity on them because we, many times, would react the same way. But with Loki, it's harder.

He is being selfish. He could've chosen to do the right thing, though, the wrong thing was done to him. He shouldn't have been lied to, just to be spared, and I'm not justifying his actions on this. I can't.
And, that's what gets me irritated about Odin.
Everyone's like "I HATE HIM" and "HE WAS SO MEAN TO POOR LOKI."
Yes, he was, but I don't hate him. He honestly loved Loki. He had to have. He chose to bring a Frost Giant's child, the sworn enemy of Asgard, into his home, to raise him as his own, fully aware of what he was undertaking. He did'nt tell Loki to, indeed, spare him, but it only hurt Loki more.
But what would've you done? The same, most likely.
Loki has been lied to about what he is, what he always thought he was. If you suddenly realized your mom and dad weren't mom and dad, if you weren't, suddenly, human ... I mean, COME ON??!?!
Wouldn't you feel worthless? Wouldn't you feel as if there were no purpose for you in the universe, but to be bad? Because you were only the spawn of a monster. Only. A. Monster.
Loki's angry and confused when he learns this, and he becomes hopeless, to an extent.
In his mind, he is unlovable and it blinds him. He knows Frigga and Odin and Thor love him, but he's not the same and he doesn't think he should be loved. So, he's trying to prove, to himself and himself alone, that he is good. That he can rule. That he can meet expectation, just like his brother, Thor.
And, yet, to achieve that, he must get rid of Thor, leading to his attempt to send the Destroyer to Earth (in Thor). At this point, it wasn't an attack on Earth or anyone but Thor. Because Thor was real, he was the real son. I think he was jealous of Thor all the time and it took this to let all that come out.
But, he does love Thor. He says it twice in movie, he says never doubt it. They are brothers, whether they have the same blood or are the same race.
And it wasn't right. He knew that. But anger and jealously and confusion were drowning him in a maddening, desperate attempt to simply ... do it.
"I could've done it, father."
That was his last plea, his apology, his ... justification, of all he'd done.
And when Odin simply says "No, Loki,", he has NOTHING left.
It's all gone. he couldn't handle the rejection. He had no wish to go on and no hope of doing so.
So, he falls from the rainbow bridge.
2. Why did Loki attack Earth?
There has been so much argumentative banter over this, so let me tell you a thing.
I am CONVINCED, without doubt, he was being controlled.
I've read arrangement after argument about this and it all leads to that.
And remember Thanos's "Hey, how's world domination going, buddy?".
Didn't exactly look like a comradeship going on there. He wasn't equal with Loki, he was almost threatening him. I MEAN LOOK. He's scared, he doesn't look pumped up to kill some humans and conquer the world.

he's crying . |
Which, brings me to my ultimate question. Where did Loki fall? Where did he land? And what happened after he did, somehow, stop falling, hmm? And how did he meet Thanos and team up with him and his army of mutant aliens?
And, the 'glow stick of destiny". What about that thing? Notice, he never puts that thing down. The energy, magic, whatever in it can control the people he touches, why couldn't it have done the same thing to him? Because his eyes sure do change a lot ... maybe he's fighting it with his own magic but he can't win. He keeps fighting it and he can. not. win.
He regrets all he's done, I think. He doesn't want Thor dead, he doesn't want any of this ...

I mean, look at him. He looks like he has in slept in months... |
He wouldn't have even been able to plan that far ahead, seeing he realized it only when Thor returned.
I think that pretty much sums up my thoughts on The Avengers.
3. What about Loki in Thor: The Dark World?

How much time passed? |
He's been rotting in a cell, for no one can guess how long, ever since he was returned to Asgard. I mean, his trial hadn't even happened. Some significant time had to have passed since what happened on Earth.
Thusly, he's probably been brooding. He's been feeling sorry for himself. And, in light of the thought that he was "controlled" or "forced" to attack Earth, wouldn't he have some cause-and-effect reactions?
And it looks as though he's been put in solitary confinement. You can't tell me it did'nt have an affect on him.
The effects of solitary confinement:
“actively psychotic and/or acutely suicidal.” Grassian has since concluded that solitary can cause a specific psychiatric syndrome, characterized by hallucinations; panic attacks; overt paranoia; diminished impulse control; hypersensitivity to external stimuli; and difficulties with thinking, concentration and memory. Some inmates lose the ability to maintain a state of alertness, while others develop crippling obsessions.
(source of the above)
I'd like to point out, though, I am not justifying Loki's actions. But I am asking you to examine the facts.

"Am I not your mother?" "You're not..." |
When Frigga dies, the only one, who, since he was returned to Asgard, did'nt give up on him ... he looses hope. He breaks, he shatters in more ways then he would ever admit.
She knew him in ways even his brother did'nt. She's the one who loved him more then them all, and when she's just completely gone, he has little else to live for. His, once, father has sentenced him to be the monster he was and his brother distrusts him.
Yet, I think he's more angry then anything, at this point.
And that's why he yells, "I am Loki of Jotunheim!"and not Asgard.
Asgard was no longer his home, he literally did'nt care anymore, The love he'd known, was gone. He would've watched it burn, and wouldn't have lifted a pinky to try and stop it, I think.
BUT.
Does he really die? No, obviously. Maybe? NO ONE KNOWS. But will I stop defending him? Nope.
I rest my case.
